Interview with Jake Euhus - Community Tree Project

How did you find Community?

My parents had been going to Community before I was even a twinkle in their eye. In fact, they got married by Pastor Vogelsang way back in the early days! So, just by pure fate, I've been going to Community since I was in the womb.

Are you involved in any ministries at Community?

I'm pretty highly involved with Community. I'm on the Board of Outreach, and I'm really excited about some of our future outreach efforts in the near future. I'm in the young adults group that meets for Bible studies on Sunday nights, my family helps out with a lot of the fundraisers for our youth mission trips, and right now I'm in our theater company's play, Mary Poppins! By the way, if you're reading this, come and see it, it's gonna be a good show!

Tell me about your family.

My family is amazing. My parents are so so so incredibly involved at Community, and I've drawn a lot of my inspiration to try and live up to their standards of volunteerism. They help out with our annual BBQ and Hoedown, Easter breakfasts, Father's Day breakfasts, have chaperoned on a bunch of mission trips, and have done countless other things behind the scenes here at Community. I'm ridiculously proud of them.My little brother is in high school, so he's doing the Youth thing right now. High school was a really fun period for me, and our church offers a ton of opportunities for our youth. He has a lot of opportunities in front of him that other churches just don't offer.

And then my older brother lives up north in Orange County, and has started a beautiful family of his own. In fact, he just had a baby boy, so I'm an uncle now! His name is Rusty, and he just got baptized here at Community a couple weeks ago.

What do you do for fun?

My biggest hobby is without a doubt playing the guitar. I can just sit down and start noodling around on that thing for hours. It's weird, it's like time passes by faster when I'm playing. I've recently been playing for our praise band at our San Marcos campus about once a month, so perhaps you'll catch me there sometime!

Where do you work?

I actually work here, at Community. So yeah, pretty much every facet of my life revolves around church. My official title is Media Manager, so that kind of gives me a broad opening to do a lot of different things here. My most prevalent responsibility is making the announcements video each week. A lot of people don't know that I work here or do that, so yep, that's me that put all those banners and stuff up there... unless you don't like them, then in that case I don't work here. I've also been collaborating with Kristen to work on the new church website. Be looking out for that, it's so much cleaner looking, and the aesthetics of it are just beautiful.

Tell me more about Mary Poppins.

Mary Poppins! It's been a long couple of months, but it's all really starting to come together. I'm pretty excited about it. As always, Community Players Theatre has done a great job of putting this all together: the costumes, the set, the dance routines, all of it is just great. Plus, we're like the only community theatre in the area that was able to get the rights to put on the show! So see it here, because you can't see it anywhere else! Oh, and you can buy tickets online, so if you're reading this, buying tickets is just a couple of clicks away.

WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY TREE PROJECT?

Community Lutheran Church is a growing congregation worshiping 550 people between two campuses each week. As we continue grow, it is important that our relationships with one another continue to grow as well.  Over the coming months, our church website and Facebook page will be introducing you to a member of Community that you may or may not know yet. You’ll have the opportunity to learn a little about each member and delight in the different personalities and lifestyles that come together each week to worship our Savior.

When you join us for worship on Sunday mornings or events throughout the week, we encourage you to reach out and connect with someone you don’t normally talk to. As Pastor Vogelsang so eloquently reminds us, we are all “dear Christian friends.” We just don’t know each other yet! I’d like to change that one photo at a time.

"So that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it." - 1 Corinthians 12:25-27

Hi Jake,

I was just checking this page out on your birthday! I'm happy to see that you are so involved with your church! "If you hang around with good people, it's pretty hard to mess up your life." (A saying on my mother's piano.) Keep it up - you're doing great!
