How did you two meet?
David and I met in October 2006 and didn't decide that we actually liked each other until the end of the year. It was unfortunate timing because I was scheduled to have surgery over winter break to attempt to correct diplopia (double vision). We had 2 dates before winter break started and then I went in for surgery. I had to stay home New Year’s Eve recovering from surgery and couldn't spend it with my new beau. He drove up to my parents’ house in Murrieta and spent the entire afternoon sitting on the couch with me watching movies and hanging out with my family. He exhibited patience, kindness, willingness to be uncomfortable and an openness to new things. He left in the evening but made sure to call me a few minutes before the ball dropped in Times Square so that he could ring in the new year with me. We didn't know it then, but this was the day that my mom knew that David was something else and our relationship was something special. I guess she was right because our relationship blossomed and on May 30, 2009 we were married!
How did you find Community Lutheran Church?
David and I found Community about a year after we bought our home in San Marcos. We spent majority of that time looking for a church that was a perfect blend of traditional and modern and had young congregation that we (and our future family) could grow with. We attended an Easter service and left knowing we found a place we could go back. This church offered a style exactly to what we were looking for and the congregation went out of their way to help us feel welcome in a gentle manner.
Since joining Community, our beautiful son Matthew (21months) has joined our family. We had the privilege of Pastor Joel baptizing Matthew in September 2014 and we were able to share our story with our congregation. Long story short, our baby took a little longer to get here than most babies from healthy parents. We went the whole pregnancy not knowing if baby was a boy or girl so when baby entered the world March 21, 2013 and David got to share that baby was a boy, we knew his name would be Matthew because he was indeed our Gift from God.
WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY TREE PROJECT?
Community Lutheran Church is a growing congregation worshiping 550 people between two campuses each week. As we continue grow, it is important that our relationships with one another continue to grow as well. Over the coming months, our church website and Facebook page will be introducing you to a member of Community that you may or may not know yet. You’ll have the opportunity to learn a little about each member and delight in the different personalities and lifestyles that come together each week to worship our Savior.
When you join us for worship on Sunday mornings or events throughout the week, we encourage you to reach out and connect with someone you don’t normally talk to. As Pastor Vogelsang so eloquently reminds us, we are all “dear Christian friends.” We just don’t know each other yet! I’d like to change that one photo at a time.
"So that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it." - 1 Corinthians 12:25-27
