Tell me about A Night on Broadway:
Night on Broadway will be an incredible event that showcases the talents of our wonderful acting core. The songs are from some of your favorite Broadway musicals and the voice, well incredible. This year will have some great shows including a few songs from our Spring Musical CINDERELLA, which will be the highlight of our year. We will also hopefully include a song or two from our upcoming Christmas show THE RENTED CHRISTMAS. I will leak also that there is going to be a surprise performance, a finale of types for one of our actors and actresses. It should be quite emotional and heartfelt, so I would tell everyone that they want to make a point of coming to one of our two shows, Saturday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m and Sunday, August 23 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are all $10 and can be purchased at the door of each show.
How did you find Community Lutheran Church?
We moved from Northern California in 2004 and met with Pastor. As soon as we had a chance to talk with him, we were hooked, but with Jim Meyer here, the youth program for my kids looked great too.
Where did you grow up? Do you have an interesting story about your childhood etc?
I was born in Appleton, Wisconsin. My dad worked for a moving company so we moved often. While living in Janesville, I suffered an attack of Optical Neuritis and went blind for a short period of time. But God had plans for me, so after a month in the hospital and some wonderful treatments by some amazing doctors, I returned home to live a normal childhood. In 3rd grade my dad was transferred to Houston, where I spent the rest of my youth, graduating high school and starting college at Concordia Austin. Later, my parents were transferred to Arcadia, and to persue my desire to work with youth, I transferred to Christ College Irvine (now known as Concordia Irvine) where I got my degree as a Director of Christian Education. Later, God had different plans for me and led me to the classroom, where I have had 23 years of joy teaching students the power of theater.
What is your occupation?
I am the Director of Drama Ministries here at Community. I am also the Drama Teacher at Murrieta Mesa High School. For both of these, I produce and direct all of the theater shows.
What are your hobbies?
Unlike most drama people, I have always been a huge sports fan. Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, Golf, etc. You name it, I love it. I love to collect autographs and memorabilia. I also love to play any sport when I can. I am also a huge supporter of the performing arts, and its importance in changing the lives of our kids.
WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY TREE PROJECT?
Community Lutheran Church is a growing congregation worshiping 550 people between two campuses each week. As we continue grow, it is important that our relationships with one another continue to grow as well. Over the coming months, our church website and Facebook page will be introducing you to a member of Community that you may or may not know yet. You’ll have the opportunity to learn a little about each member and delight in the different personalities and lifestyles that come together each week to worship our Savior.
When you join us for worship on Sunday mornings or events throughout the week, we encourage you to reach out and connect with someone you don’t normally talk to. As Pastor Vogelsang so eloquently reminds us, we are all “dear Christian friends.” We just don’t know each other yet! I’d like to change that one photo at a time.
"So that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it." - 1 Corinthians 12:25-27
